Started off with taking out of the headliner board, the MOST TEDIOUS after all! Started with unscrew all courtesy handle and its cover. This enable the courtesy upper panel both LHS and RHS be able to be slide out of the car. Then there are 2 clips holding the board parallel to rear seat. This clip is covered under the vinyl layer, so I just cut the cover a little bit and using screw driver to turn it 90 degrees to release. I just clip them from outside after re-installation rather than behind the vinyl itself. Then remove rear view mirror assembly, the sun shade assembly and off you go! Slide the board backward a little bit to release the front part. Upon releasing the front part, slide it to the front and you should release the board off the roof. Oh one more thing is the courtesy dome lamp, remove it & all electrical connectors. (I would suggest to detach battery before begin work).
To bring the board out is the most terrible task. You have to go very slow and steady as the board will easily break. I finally found out below setup is the ideal setup to get the board out of the car and into the car back;
a) Detach rear seat. Identify location of hook, press it downward and at the same time push it backward. Easy said than done, good luck!
b) Slide front passenger as front as possible, them slide backrest down (bed-mode).
c) And slide driver seat as front as possible, same goes to the beckrest, as front as possible (nodding look).
Then I was able to use the rear RHS door as the route. Note that my car is RHS driver model with no sunroof.
Sent it to a friend who do cushion works at his house. Imagine using my Vios to transport it! Installation is just reverse of detachment. And now I got a fresh look upwards! With that my interior work is almost done! Just need to install speakers and stereo system.
thanks paen & vios!!
