Jamming B230E Crankshaft Pulley

Hi all.

I am in the midst of changing my timing belt. This is the first time timing belt change ever for me. This post is focusing on how to jam the crankshaft pulley. I know from manuals, we are required to use Volvo special tools, which most of us do not have. So any alternatives?

Various alternative were elaborated in this page, very useful page to be read before you perform the job. This is the page link; http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/faq/EngineSealsBeltsVent.html

Looking at all options presented in the website, I chose to use the U-bolt and chain to retain the crankshaft pulley. It really works amazingly! See pictures below on how I set-it up, you might need a padlock or in my case I used small shackle to retain the chain.

Trust me the 24mm bolt is extremely tight, you need a bar connected to your wrench to loosen it properly.

Lessons learnt from this job will be posted later. Cannot finish it simply because the timing belt ordered and received are of different model and part number, it just simply can't fit.
